The literature review is ***NOT*** a one-off activity.
It is ***NOT*** a chapter that you just complete and move on from. (Though you eventually do complete it and move on from it. But you likely do this only when you submit your full thesis!)
The literature review is an ***ongoing process***, and there are clear reasons why this is the case.
โ At the start of your research, you read the literature to think about your own research and what you want to do.
โ When you formulate your research problem, you read the literature.
โ When you design your methodology, you go back to the literature.
โ When you develop your data collection instruments, you revisit the literature.
โ When you analyse your findings, you return to the literature.
โ When unexpected findings emerge, you search the literature again.
โ When writing the discussion chapter, you compare your results against the literature yet again.
